Abstract
In recent decades, social transformations, particularly in Muslim societies, have redefined the traditional position of women within both family and society. Expanded access to higher education and the growing opportunities for women’s participation in economic, political, and cultural domains testify on the one hand to the development of their human and social capacities and, on the other, to the realization of key elements of social justice from an Islamic perspective. Nevertheless, these developments, occurring within the broader context of modernity, have been accompanied by emerging criminological challenges. Among these challenges is the increase in certain forms of female offending and victimization arising from women’s widespread presence in public spheres, a phenomenon that has intensified the complexity of the relationship between the individual, social structures, and women’s subjectivity. Adopting a diagnostic and critical approach and emphasizing the dignity-centered foundations of Islam, this study seeks to analyze the factors contributing to the expansion of women’s social participation and to explain the criminological implications of this participation. The purpose of this analysis is not to negate the active presence of women, but to inform the design of preventive policies and the promotion of social security. Through such policies, it becomes possible to aspire to a balanced and secure society grounded in innate human nature and divine justice.
